The future of pain care
Просмотров 973Год назад
Written through the perspective of three different people who all have chronic pain, we produced this short animation to tell the story of chronic pain and the potential for reimagining pain care across our NHS. At the moment, chronic pain is treated through pain management programmes which often start with pain medication. But while this works for some people it often fails and in the long run...

I had one yesterday. It took 4 attempts and they still couldn't do it. They had to stop. It was the worse experience I ever had. I've had 3 epidural so I thought it was similar. I got it done again, properly today. Didn't feel much only a "nervy" kind of pinch. It totally depends on the person doing it.

Yeah okay, saw a lot of comments like "Oh, its just a loud minority, its fine it doesn't hurt, blablahblah, don't stress"- STRESS. Don't actually, but prepare for the pain you're going to endure. There are a bunch of floating nerves in your spinal fluid apparently, and when they hit it which is way more likely than you are lead to believe, you will see stars and smell jesus. It felt like a bad needle initially, then it felt like keys scraping the inside of my hip bone, then it must have hit the nerve straight on because pain shot down my leg in such a manner that my leg reflexively kicked out causing a worse pain because... well my leg kicked out with a giant needle in my spine, of course it hurt. The recovery sucks, I am on day 3 and likely because I really cannot do full bedrest with my nana, dad, 3 kittens, and fiancée it really fucking hurts still. But I can sorta bend ish. Do not be me though. Set time and help aside for this procedure, do not twist bend shimmy- just do not. If you can manage to deal with the pain the procedure will typically end quickly, but note the pain if it feels worse than a bad needle. Don't be a baby about it, but advocate for it. Keep well rested, drink some coffee, nab some excedrin, and hydrate. You'll be okay in the end, just make sure you have a reputable doctor begore all else.

72 yrs old here. I never understood why pathologists & other MD's will do bone marrow aspiration without proper Anes. I would always give Versed 2-3 mg, and Ketamine 25mg just before the betadine skin prep. Then before the injection of the Dr.'s Local of choice I would give another 25-35 mg of Ketamine IV allowing 5 mins before the aspiration trocar was inserted. The entire procedure was carried out without pt. discomfort or memory. The pt. almost always would slowly regain consciousness while breathing spontaneously through out the procedure, frequently asking "have we started yet?" My personal feeling is it is cruel to carry out this bone marrow aspiration in any other way. Ketamine unnecessarily fell into disrepute due to anes. practioners lack of skill in its administration. I am thrilled to see it has returned with additional uses.

The actual procedure was nothing for me but fast forward 4 days & i have the absolute worse headaches & nausea of my life whenever I sit up or stand up. I actually vomited yesterday after just walking for 5-10 minutes my head was POUNDING and I felt like I was going to pass out. Worst headache of my life & when EMTs got there they were being very condescending. Welcome to phoenix Az they probably just thought I was another drug addict when I was really just suffering worst than ever before. I really lost all hope in humanity after this experience. There was 0 sympathy shown to me.

Of course, here it is broken into paragraphs:Better to write: Please, someone respond. I ended up at the A&E (London) with balance disturbances after having chickenpox (2 days after the scabs dried - I'll add that I had a very mild case of chickenpox).Problems with walking and balance started. They did blood tests, a CT scan, an MRI, EMG, and a lumbar puncture. (I'm not sure how much fluid they took exactly, but I think around 30 milliliters as recommended).I lay down for 1.5 hours after the lumbar puncture, and they sent me home. An hour later, I started vomiting. For the next 3 days, I could barely walk and kept vomiting, so I returned to the A&E. I'm not vomiting anymore, but I have a balance problem; my movements aren't "fluid." I'm exhausted by this. What should I do? Will it go away? I'll add that my mom had multiple sclerosis, and I told the doctor about it, but they ruled out all neurological causes after all the tests came back okay.
